Northwoods Montessori School is a nonprofit educational organization providing programs for children ages 1 -- 12. From its inception, Northwoods has been affiliated with the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
Originally opened in Decatur, Georgia, in January 1972 as the Montessori World of Children, the school's founders emphasized integrating students of diverse backgrounds. The first elementary class was begun in 1975 and by 1980 the enrollment had outgrown the Decatur facility. A second campus was opened in Doraville and the school was re-named Northwoods Montessori.
Currently, Northwoods Montessori School provides a toddler community (established 2002) at the Decatur campus, primary level programs in both Decatur and Doraville, and a consolidated elementary program at the Doraville campus. The school also offers after-school programs.
